Tocardo T50 Turbine

T50

The Tocardo T50 Turbine is the smallest turbine Tocardo produces. It is very suitable for shallow rivers and canals. Because of the limited size the installation process is fairly simple as well. A turbine can be attached to a bridge for example but can also be bottom deployed. 

 

The power range of the Tocardo T50 turbine is 10-53 kW (nominal output*). The minimum depth of river or canal must be 3.5 m and the minimum water flow velocity around 1.5 m/s.

* Nominal power corresponds to the maximum power that a machine is able to deliver continuously. It may however deliver for short periods of time higher levels of power.                           

 


Currently a T50 turbine is installed at our demo site in Den Oever, the Netherlands.


Specifications of the turbine installed there are:

  • Blade diameter 2.8 meter
  • Maximum flow velocity 4 m/s (unidirectional)
  • Blades optimized for unidirectional flow (bi-directional blade is tested)
  • Nominal output 45 kW @3.5 m/s water speed
  • Permanent Magnet Direct Drive variable speed generator with AC-AC converter
  • Fixed pitch blades
  • No yawing mechanism
